Where the Subaru XV Crosstrek takes you
Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive and a raised ride height put the Crosstrek in the comfortable middle of the fleet: everything the Prius does, plus the gravel it cannot. Juta, the Truso Valley, the broken final stretch to David Gareja and the potholed village streets of Stepantsminda and Mestia are all straightforward. Since the Mestia-Ushguli road was sealed in 2024 it reaches Ushguli in good summer weather without drama. What it is not is a body-on-frame 4x4: Tusheti, the Abano Pass and tracks like Koruldi Lakes need the 4Runner or the Prado.
Living with it
It drives like a hatchback and parks like one, which matters more than it sounds when your day ends in a city centre. Five seats, a boot that takes two large cases, and enough clearance that you stop flinching at speed bumps and unsealed driveways. Petrol and automatic, so nothing to think about. If you want the same capability with noticeably more room for luggage and rear passengers, look at the Forester - it is the same idea in a larger body.
