SUVSubaru Forester
The roomier Subaru, 2019-2023: more boot space and headroom than the Crosstrek on the same all-wheel-drive platform, and the easy pick for a family week on Georgian back roads.

Where the Subaru Forester takes you
The Forester handles the same ground as the Crosstrek - gravel side valleys, mountain village streets, Ushguli in summer - with more composure when the weather turns. That extra margin is why we reach for it first in shoulder season: in May, June, September and October the passes are less predictable, and a bigger 4WD with real luggage space is the difference between adjusting your plans and abandoning them. Ski weeks in Gudauri and Bakuriani are its natural habitat, on winter tyres. Tusheti and the Abano Pass remain 4Runner and Prado territory.
Living with it
The practical gap between this and the Crosstrek is boot space and headroom, and on a week-long trip it shows. Four adults and their luggage fit without anyone negotiating, and the tall glasshouse makes the mountain driving genuinely more pleasant than the numbers suggest. Petrol, automatic, all-wheel drive, five seats. If you need a seventh seat rather than more boot, the Highlander and Outlander are the ones to compare.
