Driving and parking in Tbilisi
Central Tbilisi runs on zonal hourly parking: 1 GEL (about $0.35) an hour, first 15 minutes free, billed around the clock through the Parking Tbilisi app or a bank terminal. An unpaid bay is a 50 GEL fine and a sidewalk is 100 GEL plus a likely tow, and in a rental those follow the plate back to us. At the airport the first 10 minutes are free - enough to collect the car - and a full day runs about 23-26 GEL. The other thing to know is the old town: those lanes were laid out long before cars, so something compact like the Subaru XV Crosstrek or a Jeep Renegade is far less stressful than a full-size 4x4.
